Six students from the Tennessee Technology Center at Ripley accompanied by SkillsUSA advisors Joanne Edley and Amy Stephens attended the National SkillsUSA Conference and Skill Competition last week (June 20th– 24th) in Kansas City.  Wednesday, June 22nd, Joanne Edley, along with her CIT students and/or graduates Jeremy Fisher, Timothy Littles, Kayla Newman, Jason Washegesic and BST student Lisa Hutchins, received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award during the Conference Opening Ceremony at Kemper Arena.  These individuals were recognized on stage and presented with honorary pins.  Earlier that day they attended a recognition breakfast with Lowe’s Representatives and were honored at a VIP reception prior to the evening ceremony.

Josh McBroom and Jeremy Fisher, both CIT students, were contestants in competitions held Wednesday, June 22ndand Thursday, June 23rd.  Results concluded with Josh ranked seventh out of fifteen in the nation for Technical Computer Applications and Jeremy ranked fifth out of nineteen in the nation for Prepared Speech.  This was the first time either of these students had competed at this level.

Timothy Littles, Lisa Hutchins and Jason Washegesic served as voting delegates throughout the week for Tennessee national officer candidate, Jeremy Ballentine.  They attended business sessions, met with industry representatives and heard from government officials.  Their hard work paid off as results were announced Mr. Ballentine was elected to office Friday night at the SkillsUSA Awards Ceremony. 

SkillsUSA is a national organization that serves trade, industrial, technical and health occupations students in public high schools, career and technical centers and schools and two-year colleges.  SkillsUSA has more than 300,000 student members annually, organized into more than 3600 schools and 54 state and territorial associations (including Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands).  Since 1965 SkillsUSA has served more than 10.4 million members.
