Gregory Patrick of Halls, an Industrial Electricity student at Tennessee Technology Center Ripley was named local winner of the Tennessee Technology Center Outstanding Student of the Year program. Greg received a plaque and will compete in the regional competition in Jackson on January 25th.  Six finalists will win a tablet or laptop and advance to the state competition in Chattanooga to be held in April in conjunction with the American Technical Education Association National Conference. The winner of the state title, which is awarded for excellence in leadership and technical skill, will receive the grand prize of a new car.

The Outstanding Student of the Year program  seeks to spotlight the importance of technical education in today’s world of work and to recognize outstanding achievement by students of the Technology Centers.  To be considered for the Outstanding Student of the Year the students were nominated by their Instructor and interviewed by a panel of community leaders – Catherine Via, Crockett County Higher Education Center; Susan Todd, Lauderdale Chamber & ECD; Renate Jennings , Marvin Windows; Sue Toles, Regional Economic Development Initiative; and  Mayor Rod Schuh, Lauderdale County. Tennessee Board of Regents, Office of Tennessee Technology Centers sponsors the Outstanding Student of the Year program statewide. In addition to Greg three other students were recognized for their outstanding achievements, character and leadership. They are Garvin Ferguson of Ripley, Computer Information Technology program; Jennifer Sanders of Bells, Business Systems Technology program; and Clarissa Anderson of Alamo, Business Systems Technology program.

Greg is the son of Wilma & Olgie Patrick and the spouse of Bernice Patrick and he is the father of two, Olivia and Joshua. Greg and his family worship with Mt. Zion Baptist Church in the Double Bridges community.
