Four Rivers Regional Nursing Program Teachers: Beth Street, Candace Stallings (Alamo) Program Length: 12 months (1296 hours) Current Openings: Accepting applications for January 2007 class! The year-long Practical Nursing (PN) course prepares students for employment in the nursing profession. Most Licensed Practical Nurses work in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, doctors' offices, and home health. The training is comprised of classroom, clinical, and lab. The program is built upon a demanding curriculum emphasizing dedication and a caring attitude. A Registered Nurse provides supervision and instruction for the students. The student studies the following: basic science and anatomy, nursing principles and skills, medical surgical nursing, pharmacology and administration of medications, maternal and child nursing, pediatric nursing, nutrition & diet therapy, vocational relations, advanced vocational relationships, basic emergency nursing, gerontological nursing, and psychiatric nursing and mental health concepts. Progressing from simple to complex, clinical experience provides the student the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes essential for the practice of nursing and for providing the foundation for continuing personal and professional growth and development. Licensure may be awarded to qualified applicants by the Tennessee Board of Nursing after obtaining a passing score on the NCLEX-PN exam. The career outlook is excellent for this rapidly growing allied health care profession. Class Requirements In order to be placed on the waiting list for this class, all prospective students must be High School or GED graduates, and make a score of 42 in math and 51 in reading on the NET (Nurse Entrance Test). Testing dates can be confirmed through the Student Services office. |
