Patient Care Technician

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) course prepares students for certification and employment in the health care field. The training is comprised of classroom, lab practice, and clinical externship. 

The Patient Care Technician Program is an eight-month program designed to train students to a level in patient care technology that prepares them for certification and employment as a PCT.  This course offers students training in anatomy and basic science, CPR, First Aid, Phlebotomy, EKG, and patient care technology,  Certificates available in this course include:  Nursing Assistant, Phlebotomy Technician, and Electrocardiography Technician.  The diploma obtainable upon completion of the program is Patient Care Technician.

In addition to lectures and lab activities, students will participate in approximately 300 hrs. of clinical training.  Clinical hours may vary from the classroom training schedule in order to accommodate the medical facility providing this opportunity.

Certificate levels are:

  • Nursing Assistant (certified by the state of Tennessee)
  • Phlebotomy Technician (certified by the National Healthcareer Association)
  • Electrocardiography Technician (certified by the National Healthcareer Association)

The course of study also includes skills enhancement, job seeking skills, medical terminology, basic anatomy and science, advanced procedures, CPR for the healthcare provider, first aid, and basic medical office skills. Each student will participate in more than 9 weeks of training in various medical facilities. The hours of operation in each medical facility will vary, requiring a degree of student flexibility.

All prospective applicants will be required to score at 9th grade level on the TABE test (Test of Adult Basic Education).

Program Length: 8 months (864 hours)

Current Openings: To be eligible for the classes that will begin May 2012 all TABE scores must be recieved by Marc 16, 2012 at 4:30p.m. CST
