ADDITIONAL TIPS FOR TUTORS

Assumptions:  Never assume anything about the educational background of your learner.  He/she may be either more advanced or more academically challenged than records and testing seem to indicate.

Respect:  Never waiver in your responsibility for respecting your learner’s privacy and self-esteem.  As your relationship progresses it is essential that your learner be able to trust you and to count on your discretion for his/her maximum personal growth and academic progress.

Locations:  Always meet your student in a safe and neutral location that is conducive to learning.  Suggestions include the Tennessee Technology Center at Ripley, the Tennessee Career Center, Lauderdale County Library, and church or community center where others are present.

Safety:  For your personal safety and that of your student you should meet neither in your home nor that of the student.  Never accept a ride from your student and never offer transportation to your student.
